Cristian Torres is a solutions-focused corporate counsel and people developer with a passion and curiosity about operations, sales, finance, and process efficiency.

For 17 years, he advised executives at Nissan Motors and Volkswagen Group—including two years at Nissan’s global HQ in Japan—navigating the complex, highly regulated world of automotive manufacturing and distribution. In 2021, Cristian joined the Carvana (NYSE: CVNA) legal team, helping to unlock new business and revenue opportunities, bringing Cristian and his family to the Phoenix area. More recently, Cristian operated as the general counsel of the commercial services unit of Verra Mobility (Nasdaq: VRRM), a global B2B SaaS solution provider for large fleet operators.

Now with the Van Tuyl Companies (VTC), Cristian provides business-focused legal counsel and problem solving to the highly talented team operating VTC’s diverse holdings, which include a dozen vehicle dealerships, multiple real estate ventures, and numerous other investments.

Cristian serves on the board of directors of First Tee Phoenix, a charitable organization providing local youth access to golf without regard to finances, and promoting empowerment, discipline, and other positive life skills through the game.

Cristian grew up in Joplin, Missouri, a small middle-American town. He graduated from Harvard College with honors, earned his JD from the University of Chicago, and started his legal career with Latham & Watkins.
